About the Rx Summit

The Rx and Illicit Drug Summit - formerly the Rx Drug Abuse & Heroin Summit - is the largest national collaboration of professionals from local, state, and federal agencies, business, academia, treatment providers, and allied communities impacted by prescription drug misuse and illicit drug use. It is the event for decision-makers and allied professionals working to address this public health emergency.

The Summit began in 2012 under the leadership of Operation UNITE and U.S. Rep. Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-5th). Operation UNITE (Unlawful Narcotics Investigations, Treatment and Education, Inc.) was created in 2003 by Congressman Rogers. UNITE is a collaborative model striving to prevent abuse of drugs and facilitate recovery by creating strategic partnerships, providing leadership, promoting education, coordinating treatment, and supporting law enforcement. UNITE serves a 32-county region in southern and eastern Kentucky.

The Summit is now the largest annual gathering for stakeholders to discuss what’s working in prevention and treatment. Notable speakers in past years have included President Joe Biden in 2021 and 2022, President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump in 2019, President Bill Clinton in 2018, and President Barack Obama in 2016.

The Rx Summit is produced by HMP Global as part of the Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Learning Network.
